Last Friday, the students of the courses Vida y Cultura and Idioma Inglés VIII of the English Language programme, Campus Cozumel, and visiting students from CONALEP took part in the "Tea Party". This activity was hosted by Chris Randall, a visiting student from Southampton University. Taking part in the well known tradition in the UK for drinking tea, students had the opportunity to learn and experience the most popular way of drinking tea in the British style. Boiling water is poured into a cup with a tea bag. After three minutes the bag is taken out of the cup, milk and sugar is added. Three teaspoons of sugar is the standard, Chris explained. Students learned the difference between the meaning of being invited for "a cup of tea" or "being invited for tea". The first is about drinking a tea with biscuits and it's a very friendly and widely used invitation for any occasion. The second one is an informal invitation to have some food in the afternoon and of course this invitation may start and end with a cup of tea. While drinking tea Cristel, a student from the Language and Culture course, presented some information about education in England and gave students the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the topic. Some students did not like the British way of drinking tea, but many others asked for another cup.
