ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY THE DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE AND HUMANITIES, CAMPUS COZUMEL

• The culture and use of English fieldwork trip

The fieldwork formed part of the courses ACPLE114 Idioma Inglés VIII and ACPLE147 Vida y Cultura de EU y GB of the English Language Academic Programme in the Universidad de Quintana Roo Campus Cozumel and was based in the University of Southampton in the south of Britain as part of the academic agreement between the two universities. The main objectives of this fieldwork were:

  • To promote the use of the English language in a cultural context where the language is used as a first language.
  • To facilitate the identification and analysis of the cultural aspect of the English language in situ.
  • To experience the cultural environment in an English speaking country.

This fieldwork took place in the University of Southampton from the 25th of April to the 5th of May 2009. As a result of this work students produced three reports:

  • Living experiences in an English speaking country. places visited and cultural activities carried out (maximum 2000 words)
  • List of new vocabulary and phrases encountered during the fieldwork (20 minimum)
  • A topic selected by students on of one of the places visited (1000 words).

    Students will present their fieldwork experiences in the Forum: “Culture and the use of English” this summer as part of the activities to celebrate the anniversary of Campus Cozumel.
